- February 20, 2024 – Members from the OOIFB Modeling Subcommittee participate in an interactive panel discussion, Enhancing your Science with NSF OOI Data: A Community Discussion about Maximizing OOI Data Use, as part of the OOIFB Town Hall event at the 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting.
- September 11, 2024 – Members from the OOIFB Modeling Subcommittee participate in a panel discussion on NSF OOI Modeling Applications as part of the 2024 Pioneer MAB Array Community Workshop.
Action: OOIFB-2023-02 (COMPLETE) – Plan an OOIFB Town Hall session during the 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting. [continued from 2023] The 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting was held in New Orleans, LA, on 18-23 February 2024.

- May 18, 2023 – OOIFB submitted an abstract to host a Town Hall meeting at the 2024 February Ocean Sciences Meeting.
- November 7, 2023- The OOIFB’s Town Hall is accepted for the 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting and is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 12:45-13:45.
- November 28, 2023- OOIFB Town Hall page created- please visit this page for all event details.
- February 20, 2024 – OOIFB Town Hall took place with over 70 participants in attendance.
Action: OOIFB-2024-3 (COMPLETE) – Review and update the OOIFB Charter. Ensure that the OOIFB Charter is consistent with NSF’s OOIFB Terms of Reference.
Action Taken:
- August and September 2023 – The OOIFB begins discussions on potential updates and revisions to the OOIFB Charter and Terms of Reference (ToR).
- October 2023 (Fall meeting) – Additional discussions take place as part of the Fall OOIFB-DSC meetings at WHOI. The OOIFB and DSC did not vote on the updated Charter and ToR at this time.
- November 8, 2023 – A draft of an NSF-updated OOIFB Charter is received and distributed to the OOIFB and DSC. The OOIFB and DSC are asked to discuss the updated documents at their [respective] November web-conferences.
- December 1, 2023 – An updated draft of the OOIFB Charter and ToR, which integrates comments and questions from discussions during the November web conferences, is supplied to NSF.
- December 11, 2023 final versions of the NSF-revised OOIFB Charter and ToR are received and posted to the OOIFB website.
Action: OOIFB-2024-04 (on-going) – Host a Community Workshop focused on the Coastal Pioneer Array at its new location in the Mid-Atlantic Bight (MAB). [continued from 2023]

- February 8, 2023 – Webpage for the Pioneer Community Workshop, with draft agenda and other details, launched on the OOIFB website. Initial workshop details are shared during the February 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
- February 28, 2024 – Application to register to participate in the September 2024 Pioneer Array MAB Community Workshop is announced.
- March 31, 2024 – Application to register to participate is closed; nearly 70 applications received.
- May 16, 2024 – Workshop applicants are invited to participate in the workshop. Travel support status is also designated.
- Communications are ongoing with workshop participants from May-September 2024. Agenda details, workshop expectations, travel logistics, presentation reminders, background resources, and other information are shared with workshop participants.
- July 12, 2024 – an agenda with finalized with speaker names, plenary topics, discussion panels, and other details is posted to the 2024 Pioneer MAB Community Workshop webpage.
- July 23, 2024 – poster presenters are confirmed.
- August 26, 2024 – A google folder, the Community Resource Repository, is shared with workshop participants. It provides examples of published research and other papers that may be of interest to 2024 Pioneer MAB Array Community Workshop participants. It is not an exhaustive review of Pioneer NES and MAB research. The Pioneer MAB Array Community Workshop Planning Committee initially added resources to the repository, and other workshop participants were encouraged to upload additional, relevant publications and resources to the repository (in appropriate folders).
- August 26, 2024 – a poster sessions/reception RSVP form is created and shared as non-workshop participants (e.g. undergraduate and graduate students, early career scientists, and other faculty) from location institutions/organizations are encouraged to attend the poster session event on the evening of Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The poster session/reception is to be held in honor of Dr. Larry Atkinson.
- August 29, 2024 – a final workshop agenda is posted online.
- September 10-12, 2024 – The Coastal Pioneer Mid-Atlantic Bight (MAB) Community Workshop takes place at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. The workshop was dedicated in honor of Dr. Larry Atkinson. Over 85 participants (from 14 different states and 40 different academic institutions, Federal agencies, and other organizations) were engaged in-person and online, through a series of plenary presentations, hands-on data demonstrations, poster presentations, breakout sessions, interactive discussion panels, and informal networking opportunities to learn about the capabilities of the Pioneer MAB Array and the cutting-edge research that can be done in its new Mid-Atlantic Bight location.
- September 12, 2024 – A post workshop evaluation form is shared with all workshop participants. Feedback received will better inform future workshop events, as well as offer insight to additional topics the OOIFB might cover in future programs. 45 responses (~ 50% of workshop participants) are received.
Action: OOIFB-2024-05 (COMPLETE) – Review and provide input to the 2024 OOI Annual Work Plan (AWP) for Program Year 7.
Action Taken:
- April 16, 2024 – PY7 OOI AWP cost figures redacted were provided to the OOIFB for review.
- April 25, 2024– The OOIFB discussed the review process, assignments, and timeline during their April web conference.
- April 30, 2024 – Initial AWP feedback and questions from the OOIFB & DSC were compiled and sent to NSF.
- May 7 and 9, 2024 – Initial OOIFB and DSC AWP feedback are discussed with the NSF OOI PMO and MIOs as part of the Spring OOIFB-DSC meetings at NSF Headquarters in Alexandria, VA. AWP discussions were held during closed-door sessions
- July 12, 2024 – A final version of OOIFB-DSC feedback to the draft OOI AWP for Program Year 7, including a summary of comprehensive discussions that took place during the May 2024 OOIFB and DSC meetings, is provided to NSF.
Action: OOIFB-2024-6 (COMPLETE) – Announce a Call for Applications to fill two open positions on the OOIFB.

- March 29, 2024 – A Call for Applications was announced to fill the two open positions on the OOIFB. The positions will begin June 1, 2024, as John Wilkin and Ruoying He will rotate off the board as of May 31, 2024.
- April 29, 2024 – The application window officially closed.
- May 9, 2024 – An OOIFB Membership discussion took place as part of the Spring 2024 OOIFB meeting in Alexandria, VA.
- May 16, 2024 – Janet Nye and Rosie Gradoville are appointed to the OOIFB and fill the positions vacated by Ruoying He and John Wilkin at the end of the month.
Action: OOIFB-2024-07 (on-going) – Plan an OOIFB Town Hall session during the 2024 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Meeting. The 2024 AGU Annual Meeting will be held in Washington, D.C., 9-13 December 2024.

- April 23, 2024 – OOIFB submitted an abstract to host a Town Hall meeting at the December 2024 AGU meeting in Washington, DC. In addition to OOI Program and NSF updates, the Town Hall will feature another panel discussion, this time focused on the Primary Investigator (PI) process and sensor refresh activities.
- June 27, 2024 – AGU Meeting organizers accept the OOIFB’s Town Hall abstract.
Action: OOIFB-2024-08 (on-going) – Better identify key knowledge needed for effective participation in the OOIFB and the DSC.

- August 5, 2024 – The OOIFB and DSC form a [joint] Knowledge Base Subcommittee. Members of the Subcommittee include: Karen Bemis (DSC, Subcomm Chair), Rosie Gradoville (OOIFB), Mike Muglia (OOIFB), Janet Nye (OOIFB), Dax Soule (OOIFB Chair) Teresa Burlingame (DSC), Holly Morin (OOIFB ASO),. Dani Bailey (OOIFB ASO). Meetings will be held monthly via web-conference.
