OOIFB Town Hall at 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting

On February 20, 2024, the Ocean Observatories Initiative Facilities Board (OOIFB) hosted a Town Hall at the 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In addition to receiving updates about the NSF funding opportunities and the NSF OOI facility, including an update on the planned relocation of the Pioneer Array, the second half of the Town Hall was comprised of an interactive, panel discussion: Enhancing your Science with NSF OOI Data: A Community Discussion about Maximizing OOI Data Use. Panelists included:

  • Chris Edwards, OOIFB/ University of California Santa Cruz
  • Jim Edson, NSF OOI/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
  • Kristen Fogaren, OOIFB-DSC/Boston College
  • Denise Bristol, OOI Data Labs/Hillsborough Community College
  • Deborah Hernandez, Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA)

The goal of this community-focused conversation was to discuss how current NSF OOI data access and usage can be refined and/or expanded to better meet research and education goals. The discussion was well attended and participation in community feedback and recommendations was welcomed. This is an ongoing discussion and we welcome feedback- provide it here [LINK].
