Action: OOIFB-2023-01 (On-going) – Engaging the OOI Modeling Community – Brainstorm strategies for better engaging the modeling community that uses OOI data.

- January 30, 2023 – An OOIFB modeling subcommittee is formed and includes Kendra Daly, Chris Edwards, Ruoying He and John Wilkins.
- February 14, 2023 – A Modeling Group web conference is held to begin brainstorming. Various strategies are identified.
- March 30, 2023 – The Modeling Group provides an update to the OOIFB on their preliminary discussions.
- June 29, 2023 – The Modeling Group presents their draft white paper to the OOIFB with recommendations on how to better engage the modeling community.
- October 11 and 12, 2023 – The Modeling Group leads discussions on their white paper during the OOIFB-DSC joint meeting at WHOI.
Action: OOIFB-2023-02 (Complete) – Review and provide input to the 2023 OOI Annual Work Plan (AWP) for Program Year 6.
Action Taken:
- April 25, 2023 – PY6 OOI AWP cost figures redacted were provided to the OOIFB for review.
- April 25, 2023 – The OOIFB discussed the review process, assignments, and timeline during their April web conference.
- May 12, 2023 – Initial AWP feedback and questions from the OOIFB & DSC were compiled and send to NSF.
- May 25, 2023 – OOIFB holds their spring meeting via Zoom with discussions on OOI’s response to the OOIFB comments and questions
- June 7, 2023 – OOIFB submits their final AWP feedback document to NSF.
Action: OOIFB-2023-03 (On-going) – Plan an OOIFB Town Hall session during the 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting. The 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting will be held in New Orleans on 18-23 February 2024.

- May 18, 2023 – OOIFB submitted an abstract to host a Town Hall meeting at the 2024 February Ocean Sciences Meeting.
- Late July 2023 – The Ocean Sciences Meeting organizers accept OOIFB’s Town Hall abstract.
Action: OOIFB-2023-04 (On-going) – Host a Community Workshop focused on the Pioneer Array at its proposed location in the Mid-Atlantic Bight.

- August 2023 – Initial members of the workshop organizing committee are identified.
- Sept 12, 2023 – First organizing meeting is planned (meetings happen bi-weekly through December 2023)

Action: OOIFB-2023-5 (Complete) – Announce a Call for Applications to fill an open position on the OOIFB.

- A Call for Applications was announced on July 5, 2023 to fill the remainder of Tim Crone’s term on the OOIFB.
- May 11, 2023 – Jim Potemra, with endorsement from the DSC, volunteers to serve as Interim DSC Chair.
- May 19, 2023 – The OOIFB confirm Jim Potemra’s appointment as Interim DSC Chair, with endorsement from NSF.
- August 31, 2023 – The OOIFB has selected Mike Muglia to join the OOIFB.
- September 5, 2023 – NSF endorsed the OOIFB’s selection of Mike Muglia.
