DSC ACTION ITEMS – 2024

Action: DSC-2024-01 (Complete) – The DSC will provide an annual report to the OOIFB. The report will provide a summary of DSC meetings, activities, and recommendations.

Action Taken:

  • A Google Doc was created. Activities and meetings from 2023 were listed. The committee discussed recommendations and future activities during their January and February 2024 web conferences.
  • February 29, 2024 – The DSC Annual Report was submitted to the OOIFB for endorsement.
  • March 1, 2024 – The OOIFB endorsed version of the DSC Annual Report was submitted to NSF.

Action: DSC-2024-02 – (On-going) Identify strategies for addressing the recommended DSC future activities.  These activities were highlighted in the 2023 DSC Annual Report.

Action Taken:

  • March 19, 2024 – DSC members each volunteered to lead discussions on strategies to address future committee activities. A summary sheet of activities and DSC volunteers for each assigned activity.
  • April 16, 2023 – Beginning at the DSC April web conference, the future activity list was reviewed, and DSC members discussed a timeline for activities with deadlines established. A review and discussion of activities will continue at each DSC monthly web conference and summaries will be included in the running minutes.

Action: DSC-2024-03 (On-going) – Review and provide input to the 2024 OOI Annual Work Plan (AWP) for Program Year 6.

Action Taken:

  • April 16, 2024 – PY7 OOI AWP cost figures redacted were provided to the OOIFB for review.
  • April 25, 2024– The OOIFB discussed the review process, assignments, and timeline during their April web conference.
  • April 30, 2024 – Initial AWP feedback and questions from the OOIFB & DSC were compiled and send to NSF.

Action: DSC 2024-04 (On-going) Create a “OOI Data Curation Document”, which will largely focus on defining what various user groups mean when referring to PI-generated data, value-added data products, and/or curated data sets. Other topics of consideration include (a) what should be hosted by NSF OOI data services and (b) if PI-generated data products can be “OOI- recommended” whether hosted elsewhere or within NSF OOI. Lastly, the DSC will compile a summary of the NSF OOI data levels and identify/define extra value added/enhanced levels that might include curated data, published data (DOI), combined data sets, gridded data, model ready data, etc.

  • April 16, 2024 – Continued discussion about priority topics/details during the monthly DSC web-conference.  Sources for currently available information were identified.  Initial document outline to be discussed during the Spring 2024 DSC-OOIFB Meeting in Alexandria, VA.
