Action: DSC-2023-01 (Complete) – The DSC will provide an annual report to the OOIFB. The report will provide a summary of DSC meetings, activities, and recommendations.
Action Taken:
- A Google Doc was created. Activities and meetings from 2022 were listed. The committee discussed recommendations and future activities during their January and February 2023 web conferences.
- March 20, 2023 – The DSC Annual Report was submitted to the OOIFB for endorsement.
- March 30, 2023 – The OOIFB endorsed version of the DSC Annual Report was submitted to NSF.
Action: DSC-2023-02 – (On-going) Identify strategies for addressing the recommended DSC future activities. These activities were highlighted in the 2022 DSC Annual Report.
Action Taken:
- March 28, 2023 – DSC members each volunteered to lead discussions on strategies to address future committee activities.
- April 25, 2023 – Beginning at the DSC April web conference, the future activity list was reviewed and DSC leaders provided updates or suggestions on how to address their respective assigned activity. This review and discussion continues at each DSC monthly web conference and summaries are included in the running minutes.
Action: DSC-2023-03 – (Complete) Draft a short summary of the DSC Survey report that, with NSF’s approval, could be distributed publicly.

- October 2022 – DSC reviewed the full Survey report and suggested the creation of a summary document that could be shared with the public
- April 25, 2023 – Mary Jo Richardson drafted a brief summary of the report and reviewed it with the DSC
- May 5, 2023 – DSC requests permission from NSF to make the survey summary report public.
- July 24, 2023 – NSF approves the survey summary report for public distribution
- August 2023 – Survey Summary report is posted on the OOIFB website.
Action: DSC-2023-04 (Complete) – NSF requests feedback from the DSC on the OOI Annual Work Plan for Program Year 5.

- April 25, 2023 – PY6 OOI AWP cost figures redacted was provided to the OOIFB for review.
- April 25, 2023 – The OOIFB discussed the review process, assignments, and timeline during their April web conference.
- May 12, 2023 – Initial AWP feedback and questions from the OOIFB & DSC were compiled and sent to NSF.
- May 25, 2023 – OOIFB held their spring meeting via Zoom with discussions on OOI’s response to the OOIFB & DSC comments and questions.
Action: DSC-2023-5 (Complete) – Appoint interim DSC Chair. Tim Crone steps down as DSC Chair on May 8th.

- April 26, 2023 – DSC members are asked to consider serving as interim Chair of the DSC for the remainder of Tim Crone’s position that runs through September 2024.
- May 11, 2023 – Jim Potemra, with endorsement from the DSC, volunteers to serve as Interim DSC Chair.
- May 19, 2023 – The OOIFB confirm Jim Potemra’s appointment as Interim DSC Chair, with endorsement from NSF.
Action: DSC-2023-6 (Complete) – Announce a Call for Applications to fill two open positions on the OOIFB.

- A Call for Applications was announced on July 7, 2023 to fill the remainder of Jim Potemra’s term on the DSC and to fill Mary Jo Richardson’s position that will open at the end of September 2023.
- August 29, 2023 – The Committee endorsed Teresa Burlingame and Thomas Connolly as new members of the DSC.
- August 31, 2023 – The OOIFB has confirmed Teresa Burlingame and Thomas Connolly appointment, with endorsement from NSF.
