OOIFB Welcomes New Member – John Wilkin

The OOIFB welcomes John Wilkin of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, to the Facility Board.

John Wilkin has 30 years of international experience in oceanography developing and applying model-based analysis systems for interdisciplinary research in coastal and adjacent boundary current waters. His current work emphasizes coastal ocean processes, real-time data assimilation and forecasting, the design and operation of observing systems, and the impact of ocean dynamics on marine ecosystems and human activities in the marine environment. He is a developer of the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS).

John Wilkin received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and his S.M from Massachusetts Institute of Technology also in engineering. In 1988, John received his Ph.D. from the Joint Program in Oceanographic Engineering from MIT/WHOI. Currently, John Wilkins is a Professor of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University.
